Pawtastic Dog Training

About me

Hi, I'm Sophie — the human behind Pawtastic.

Hi, I'm Sophie, your certified dog nerd! I'm a Tasmanian dog trainer, founder of Pawtastic Pet Sitting, and someone who's had a lifelong love of dogs. I became a trainer because I kept meeting wonderful dogs who were struggling to have their needs understood and were trying to communicate with their owners in the only ways they knew how. I wanted to help owners better understand their canine companions, creating stronger communication and building more rewarding relationships together.

How I train: dogs do what works. So we make the right choices easy, rewarding and fun. No fear, no pain, no intimidation. Just science-backed, reward-based training. We want our dogs to trust us, building relationships that last.

What makes Pawtastic different? I train the human just as much as the dog. With a background in coaching teenage netball players, I discovered how much I enjoy teaching and helping people build confidence and understanding. If I can handle a team of teenage girls, I'm sure I can help pet owners too! You'll leave every session knowing not just what to do, but why it works, so the progress keeps going long after I've gone home.

How it all started…

My journey with dogs

A lifelong passion for dogs, turned into Pawtastic Dog Training!

    Childhood dogs

I grew up surrounded by dogs — farm dogs, family dogs, every stuffed dog teddy I could convince Mum to buy! — before eventually welcoming my soul dog Blackie when I was 8 years old. You'll see him featured many times!

  2. 2016

First job in the pet industry

My first taste of working with dogs professionally. Helping out at a local groomer's taught me gentle handling and reading body language up close. At this time I was also aspiring to become a veterinarian!

    Launching Pawtastic Pet Sitting

My partner and I began our own business caring for pets of all ages, sizes and personalities. I manage bookings and client relationships, providing high-quality care. Our top priority was communication with owners — treating their dogs as part of our own family.

  4. 2024 — Sept 2025

Pack Leader at Muddy Paws Pack Adventures

Managing groups of up to ten dogs off-lead in the bush sharpened my behaviour observation, recall handling and calm decision-making in fast-moving situations. A great insight into dog behaviour!

Coaching dogs and their owners in group classes and one-on-one sessions — my first taste of developing hands-on experience in a training setting. Building confidence, communication and educating clients on positive reinforcement methods.

    Studying Animal Behaviour & Training

Took the leap to begin formal study as an IMDT Student Trainer and through a Certificate IV in Animal Behaviour & Training. I'm extremely passionate about continuing to grow my knowledge in the dog training world — because your dog deserves a trainer who never stops learning.
